Onslow Gardens, SW7

Onslow Gardens is a 2268 sq ft mews house in South Kensington. Here, custom installation company Kensington Home Technology (KHT) carried out a full (back to brick) refurbishment from structural alterations, full rewiring (including home technology) and plumbing, to re-plastering and full redecoration. This required:

5.5km cat 5, coax and speaker cable in house

Onslow Gardens was an interesting project which was focused on future proofing. At the time of refurbishment, there was a limited range of multi room hifi systems on the market, and they were all very expensive. The client wanted the property to be ready for it and was prepared to wait until there was more choice and better value. The data network was installed by KHT in preparation, as were ceiling and wall speaker cables. Earlier this year, Sonos multi room hifi was installed with Kef speakers. The system was plugged in and installed without the need to chase any wires.

There was also the requirement to air condition one of the bedrooms, plus make provision to be able to retro fit air con in the other two bedrooms with ease. Power and pipe work for the other bedrooms was therefore installed. As is often the case, the client’s requirements changed over time and KHT was asked to come back and fit air con in one of the bedrooms. The task took three hours to complete and once again there was no need to chase any wires or core cut walls for pipes, as the preparation work had already been done.

CCTV was provisioned for at Onslow Gardens, but to date there has been no requirement for it. If and when it is required, it will take an engineer approximately half a day to install the four external and six internal cameras, plus software within the Central Distribution Point (CDP). Once complete, the client will be able to log onto their cameras from the internet anywhere in the world.
