Kensington Home Technology has been featured in The Sunday Times, as their Tech Consultant under the banner 'Ask the Experts':

I want to install speakers in my sitting room that will give good performance without dominating the space. What do you recommend?

CJ, Balham

Floor-standing speakers will monopolise a room unless you make them part of the overall design. For something a little less obtrusive, you can opt for bookshelf speakers. Try Bowers & Wilkins (01903 221800, www.bwspeakers.com) or Audio Pro (www.audiopro.com). Or use small satellite speakers mounted high on walls, but they require a subwoofer speaker that sits on the floor to boost the bass. Anthony Gallo (0870 350 1348, www.anthonygallo.co.uk) has a range of spherical models that start at £125.

If you don’t want your speakers to be seen at all, choose recessed wall or ceiling models. B&W offers a wide selection, from £80 — some models can be painted to blend in with the room. Or you can really blow the budget and install speakers in the wall behind the plaster. To find a specialist, contact the Custom Electronic and Design Installation Association (01480 213744, www.cedia.co.uk).
